WEBKEY – Your Virtual Website

What is a WEBKEY? Webkey is the “virtual website” – it’s a program that is visually and technically identical to the Internet presentation offered by XLeco to all our clients.  This webkey works offline and gives you - the end-user a chance to practice and prepare all the content for the website and later on very quickly and easily import all the information into your actual website. It’s a great tool for updating and maintaining your own website. WEBKEY also enables team work, whereby the members of a team can prepare and exchange files via e-mail, correct and adjust the information and publish with ease on the site.

We have generated a WEBKEY that operates as a secondary server. This means that the new version of the WEBKEY is able to start simultaneously with another server that is eventually running on the same PC.

After you have downloaded and unpacked (unzip) the .exe file of the WEBKEY you’ll see EN-WSC-CDMS folder. Please don’t overwrite any of the existing folders – that you have previously created and already worked with. Our suggestion is to make a copy and rename it or save it on a different drive before you download the WEBKEY again.

e.g. EN-WSC-CDMS à rename it: WEBSITE1 (and save it on D drive - just in case) and then download the webkey again.

To enter the Administration part of your virtual website you’ll need:

User: admin

Password: administrator

 How to start the webkey

The unzipped WEBKEY  folder EN-WSC-CDMS has the following programs:

1. start.bat

Program start.bat starts the webkey. This program when initially started activates the Windows firewall, which in return asks permition (twice) start two servers on your PC (Apache = web server and MySQL = data base server). You have to ALLOW these two servers to start on your computer. This is necessary for a successful start of the webkey on your PC.

Note: In case your computer has never been previously connected to the Internet you’ll have to install a modem (even if you don’t physically have one), thereby you’ll install the necessary TCP/IP protocol. It is also necessary to install all the additional programs such as Java, Flash player and Firefox.

2. stop.bat

Program stop.bat stops the above mentioned servers, so that we can start another webkey. Namely, we can have more copies of the webkey on the same PC, but we can’t start two webkeys at the same time.

3. restart WSC

This is only a link to the local (intranet address of the webkey) and it’s used to start the connection of the already activated webkey – in case we have by mistake closed the window with the browser. When the webkey is successfully activated you’ll receive a website that looks and behaves like the actual site on the net (the only difference is the address which is: http://localhost...

You can immediately start working on you website by entering the administration part with the above mentioned username and password.

Everything you design on the webkey (offline) you can import on your actual website (including the complete design).

You can’t though transfer everything at once – you have to do it one by one. This is so because of various reasons – the main reason being the safety of the server. One of the other reasons is so that content can be generated on various different webkeys – making it possible for a team of people to participate in designing and building the actual website.
